The city of Ann Arbor is probably most well known for being the home of the University of Michigan. The University moved its main campus to Ann Arbor in 1837 from Detroit. The city has a college town atmosphere due in large part to many of the University buildings being scattered through the center of the city. The University of Michigan has a large impact on the economy of Ann Arbor. The school itself employs about 30,000 people and the University of Michigan medical center employs another 7,500. Cleary University and Concordia University are also located close to Ann Arbor.
