The Legal Aid Society of Evansville, Inc. was created in 1958 as a not-for-profit firm, a 501C(3) corporation. The Legal Aid Society provides to the residents of Vanderburgh County the highest quality of legal assistance. Throughout the Vanderburgh County courts, counsel and the firm�s lawyers, administrative agencies and additional legal forums advocate for the members of the community with no money to hire attorneys. No fees are charged to clients by the Legal Aid. Some of The Legal Aid Society�s contributors are the County of Vanderburgh, United Way and City of Evansville. Twelve persons on the board of directors oversee the Society. The Evansville Bar Association appoints six of the individuals who are attorneys. The other six individuals are citizens who either work or live in Vanderburgh County but are not attorneys. Three are appointed by Vanderburgh County Commissioners and the Evansville Mayor appoints three.
