The city of Fountain Valley was mostly known for its agriculture. When the drainage canals were built it made it possible for the land to be used for growing crops and raising cattle. Sugar beets, wheat, barley and beans were some of the first crops grown. In the 1930�s many of the land owners started selling off pieces of land but crops such as tomatoes, cabbage, strawberries, asparagus, corn, spinach, peas and squash still exist today. The city experienced a surge of growth in the 1960�s when large residential neighborhoods started being constructed. Fountain Valley is now a classic bedroom community where people fee safe.
