Plaza de la Paz opened with a celebration on June 19, 1989 in Laguna Niguel on ground that once used to be a deep ocean basin approximately 10 million years ago. An excavation began that uncovered ancient extinct fossils of sea creatures. On display at the Plaza de la Paz is a skull replica of a Mixacetex Baleen Whale along with a 50-foot long jaw of a Caracharocles Mecalodon shark. The completed shopping center is approximately 295,000 square feet and runs along the La Paz Road. The building was designed in an architectural theme of Mediterranean style and features benches and walkways of unique paving for pedestrians. The residents of Laguna Niguel have an enjoyable shopping plaza with a large range of services and goods.
