Layton City believes by providing youth an active voice and involving them in organized service projects the Layton Youth Council will assist in making Layton City an improved place to live. Some of the activities the youth are involved in: annual state youth council, gaining an understanding of procedures in the government, 50 hours of service annually, and a day at the legislature. The 'Youth Council' is an educational program for young people to learn to be contributing and responsible citizens. In March 1992 The Association of Youth Councils was established through support of the Utah State University administration due to the program outgrowing the resources of USU.
