On the shore of Lake Michigan in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin is the city of Racine. The city is the county seat of Racine County and it is located at the mouth of the Root River. The name of Racine is from a French word meaning �root� and the first Europeans to discover the area were French. The city is home to a population of approximately 80,000 residents and the campus of University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Racine now has a diversified economy that has helped to stabilize the local economy that was once dominated by the manufacturing industry, much like the majority of the cities in the region.
