California, a state on the west coast of the United States has experienced massive growth over the last half century. The city of Santa Ana in the southern region of the state is a prime example of this as its population continues to boom into the 21st century. The city is already 93 percent built out and this leaves only 450 remaining acres of designated open space. On top of that, less than 50 acres of the city's total open space qualify as remnant natural or restored native landscape. Due to the high population density of Santa Ana , it feels much more like a city on the east coast than a city on the west coast.
