Located in Western Massachusetts, a state in the northeastern region of the United States, the city of Springfield has a long history that dates back to its first settlement in the early 1600�s. The long and illustrious history of the city continues to this day as it is the hub of the region culturally, economically, and financially. While Springfield was once a major power in manufacturing, its new identity as a fantastic place for tourists to visit has made up for any financial drop-off. Its close proximity to the city of Hartford in the state of Connecticut links the two cities in ways that Boston cannot as the eastern and western parts of Massachusetts are drastically different.
